H. B. Charles Jr. has been appointed dean of the Doctor of Ministry program (D.Min.) at The Master’s Seminary (TMS). He steps into this role with decades of pastoral experience and a longstanding commitment to expository preaching. As dean, H. B. will help shape the program’s direction, cultivate brotherhood among the men, and further equip pastors for faithful ministry. Under his leadership, the program will continue to emphasize rigorous biblical interpretation, careful exegesis, and accurate exposition of God’s Word.

H. B. is currently pastor-teacher of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida, where he has faithfully ministered since 2008. Before joining Shiloh, H. B. pastored Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles for nearly eighteen years. He began his pastoral ministry at age seventeen, succeeding his father after he was called home to glory.

Throughout his ministry, H. B. has distinguished himself as a trusted preacher, author, and conference speaker, with particular emphasis on biblical exposition and pastoral leadership. He has authored numerous books, including On Preaching, On Pastoring, and On Worship. He also hosts The On Preaching Podcast and is the editor-in-chief of Cutting It Straight Magazine, both of which seek to help pastors grow in their preaching. Having previously served as a guest lecturer in the D.Min. program at TMS, H. B. is familiar with and has high regard for the mission and students of the Seminary.

“There is a reason why we have been so blessed by H. B.,” said Abner Chou, president of The Master’s University and Seminary. “He has so consistently focused upon the text, studied it, preached it, and shepherded from it. The Lord has used this faithfulness to nourish the souls of many through edifying exposition. H. B. is beloved by our ministries. In 2018, Pastor MacArthur personally conferred an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree on H. B. Charles in recognition of his ministry. For all these reasons, it is a great delight to have H. B. to shape the Doctor of Ministry program and be a resource to men who desire to further refine the craft of exposition and raise up other men to do the same.”

As the new dean, H. B. brings biblical conviction, pastoral wisdom, and homiletical expertise to a program designed to help pastors thrive in their ministry of the Word.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve The Master’s Seminary in this capacity,” H. B. said. “I look forward to joining this brotherhood of faithful pastors, spending time with them, and helping equip them for greater effectiveness in the work of the ministry. It is a privilege to help steward this treasure of a program for the good of pastors, the health of local churches, and the glory of Christ. My prayer is that it will help strengthen pulpits and build up churches for generations to come.”
