The Master’s Seminary has appointed Ryan Francis as assistant professor of New Testament. Starting in the fall of 2026, Ryan will teach courses on biblical Greek, Greek exegesis, and New Testament.
For the past 11 years, Ryan has served as associate pastor of student ministry at Immanuel Bible Church in Springfield, Virginia. He has also been an instructor at The Master’s Seminary’s distance location at Immanuel Bible.
Ryan has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Illinois College. He is also an alumnus of The Master’s Seminary. He graduated with his M.Div. in 2015 and his Th.M. in 2021. He is nearing completion of his Ph.D. at The Catholic University of America, near Washington, D.C. His research has focused on the Septuagint as well as Hellenistic and Second Temple Jewish literature.
Ryan met his wife, Joyce, at Grace Community Church while he was a student at The Master’s Seminary. They both attended the on-campus Bible study at California State University, Northridge. Ryan and Joyce married in 2012. They have four children: Zoey, Sofia, Leo, and Jacob.
Ryan says TMS not only brought him to California, where he met his wife, but it also shaped him as an exegete, a shepherd, a Christian, and a husband.
“The Master’s Seminary taught me a high view of Scripture, which produces a high view of Christ, and a high view of Christ produces holiness in life.”
Ryan is thrilled at the opportunity to return to TMS as a professor and help prepare the next generation of pastors and ministry leaders.
“Martin Luther said the Word of God is the sword of the Spirit and the languages are the sheath that holds the sword,” Ryan said. “Getting to train men to read the text of Scripture in the original languages for a lifetime of expositional ministry is extraordinarily exciting.”
Jesse Johnson, senior pastor at Immanuel Bible Church and mentor to Ryan, is grateful for his friend and believes he will be a wonderful addition to the faculty at TMS.

He has the rare ability to combine pastoral warmth with rigorous scholarship, and he will train men to preach God’s Word faithfully while helping future scholars deepen their confidence in the integrity and authority of Scripture.”
